What readers are saying/My one-star review

Blog-image-199x300Through sales and giveaways the past three weeks, we’ve put 4,500 copies of Brambleman into the hands of readers. (The giveawys ended a week ago, but the 99 cent special continues through March 31.) One result of this promotional surge has been an increase in reviews–and a bump in the book’s ratings, which were already high.

Benjamin FranklinSix reviews have been posted since the promotion began: five five-star ratings and one four-star review. This has raised Brambleman’s average rating from 4.4 to 4.5.*

“Well worth reading more than once. At times irreverent, this book deals with racism, incest, murder, etc. The book really defies description. Throw in a little divine(?) intervention, an eclectic cast of characters, mix well, and shazam (!!) You have a great book named BRAMBLEMAN. 5 stars ++

Brambleman

This book was really good. It had very interesting characters and was well written. A few twists and turns, contains murder, history, love and deceit.

Loved it!

Great storyline, terrific characters – whether or not they’ve all like able is another matter. A little super natural, a little history lesson, a little mystery and even in the worst scenarios, a lot of humor. There has to be a sequel. Charlie has surely got more work to do to right the wrongs of the world.

A Very Good Read

I really enjoyed this book. l like the fact that not everyone had a happy ending because that’s how it is in life. I also appreciated the theme of redemption for those who seek it.

I found this book at times funny touching, .thought provoking and delightfully quirky. An excellent read for those who think outside the
box.

I really had doubts about this book

February 27, 2014

Unexpected is the best word I can use to describe this book. All of the time I was reading it I expected something to appear that would make me dislike it, but it just kept getting better.
Seldom do I rank a book with 5* because most books could have been better in some aspect such as plot, characterization, etc. This book is as good as it gets for what it is.
I don’t think it is a book that everyone will enjoy as much as I did, but I recommend that any avid reader at least try it.

One star

*Footnote: From my point of view, the book’s rating should be 4.6; unfortunately, Brambleman’s average has been dragged down somewhat by a single, solitary one-star review–which happens to be inauthentic. It was originally higher, but the reviewer reacted in a fit of pique when I had the temerity to suggest she correct errors in her blog post. (She had the main character’s name wrong and claimed the book was longer than it really was). Rather than make corrections, she lowered Brambleman’s rating to the lowest possible number. So this is an act of spite against the author, not an honest appraisal of the book. She also accused me of being snarky.  She has no idea. At first I likened the bad rating to the first dent on a new car’s bumper, and I ignored/accepted it for nearly a year and a half, assuming that it would be part of the mix of reviews any author should expect to receive. But since I’ve received no other negative reviews or ratings on Amazon, I’m declaring this review an outlier. Of no statistical validity whatsoever. So there.
