“A Real Jewel”

Blog-image-199x300I bought this book independently,  Brambleman  by Jonathan Grant is my first review.  While I read this book purely for pleasure, I enjoy well-researched historical fiction, and this was superb.

A large story, funny, sad, surprising, truthful, important, and most entertaining,  “Brambleman” takes issue with pervasive, decades-old injustice in the South.

Mr. Grant writes from the heart; he takes a side that he believes in, and very probably lives.  His  Brambleman  Facebook page is a gem,  and assists the reader to continue to feel in touch with both the world created in the book,  and the ongoing battle to do what is right.

There was a point, about three-quarters of the way through, when everything seemed to peak to inevitability, and I just had to laugh aloud in sheer enjoyment and admiration for this author’s skills.  (Chain-Gang Elementary,  Mr. Grant’s other great read,  has one of these moments as well. )

There are very few books that I cannot put down.  This was one.
