Jonathan Grant is the author of the novels Brambleman and Chain Gang Elementary, and the co-author and editor of his late father’s monumental history, The Way It Was in the South: The Black Experience in Georgia (UGA Press, 2001), named the state’s nonfiction “Book of the Year” and Editors Choice at American Heritage magazine.

A Forsyth County Saga

Grant, formerly of Peach County, grew up on a farm and graduated from the University of Georgia. After working as a journalist for several years, including a stint as State News Editor at The Macon Telegraph, he was became the Georgia Public Service Commission’s first Public Information Officer. After being a stay-at-home Dad, he serving as a PTA president, and coaching soccer. Active in politics as a Will Rogers Democrat. He lives in Atlanta with his wife, Judy.
