Pics of the day: Georgia Senate candidate and Resistance leader Sally Harrell

Judy and I hosted a “meet and greet” get-together to introduce Sally Harrell to some of our Northlake neighbors the other evening. It wasn’t a huge event, but it was fun, and our favorite political guy, Rep. Scott Holcomb showed up, too, which made it extra special. Sally is running against an entrenched GOP incumbent, Fran Millar, who’s never faced a serious challenge before. This time is different: Sally has a well-organized, energetic and growing team of volunteers. And Senate District Forty has been changing. It’s now considered Georgia’s most flippable Senate District, which includes much of North DeKalb, some of Sandy Springs in Fulton, and Peachtree Corners in Gwinnett.  Both Hillary Clinton and Jon Ossoff took the district’s precinct with around…

DeKalb early vote plan cuts out Tucker Rec Center, Northlake Saturday voting

(Originally published March 9, 2018) By Jonathan Grant In today’s meeting, the DeKalb County Board of Elections discussed but did not vote on a staff Early Voting plan for the May 22 primary. The big news: Tucker Rec Center is out as an EV site, and two Saturdays and one Sunday of early voting are proposed. Tucker also comes up short for advanced early voting, since early voting at Tucker Library will be available during the last week of early voting, May 14-18. In addition, there would be no Saturday voting for Tucker. It also looks like the Stonecrest/Lithonia area is getting shortchanged on advanced early voting, with the nearest polls 10-15 miles away. . The Board will approve an early voting…

Updated: Georgia GOP’s handpicked PSC “incumbent” gets primaried

UPDATE: Tricia Pridemore has a Republican challenger, John Hitchins III, who repsonded to this post: “Well, she does have an opponent now in the primary. A true Conservative who doesn’t approve of the current Republican way of cozying up with utility companies. One who believes in energy choice and the free market to decide what is best for Georgia citizens. One who has ZERO alligience to big business and will work to end the corporate welfare that the current PSC has established. I may not be known in political circles, I may be a long shot, but I believe it is time to hold these cronies accountable. My name is John Hitchins and I am running for PSC 5th district.” (The Swamp,…
