Why didn’t DeKalb Elections Board stick with 7 am-7 pm early voting?

Saturday morning, I received an email noting a change in DeKalb County’s early voting schedule for Georgia’s Sixth Congressional District Runoff. Dunwoody Library is gone, replaced by Dunwoody Methodist Church. Disruptive, perhaps, but there’s some good news, as well: The new site will open earlier, on May 30, in line with the other new EV locations in Tucker, Chamblee, and Brookhaven. In a tweet, the Board (@DeKalbVotes) called this a “correction.” That’s not what it is. It’s a change. And as long as the Board is making changes—or “corrections”—I would suggest that an even more appropriate change/correction would be to bring the hours of operation at all Early Voting sites in line with widespread public demand for expanded hours from 7:00 a.m.…

The scoop on Early Voting in DeKalb for #GA06 Runoff

Thanks to Sally Harrell, Pave It Blue, DeKalb County grassroots activists and the DeKalb County Board of Elections, the county has added Early Voting sites in Dunwoody, Tucker, Chamblee, and Brookhaven. Well done! Important points: There will be Saturday voting on June 10. Important change:  The Dunwoody Early Vote location has been moved to Dunwoody Methodist Church, and will be open for voting May 30, same as the other sites. I’m posting this so everyone can share. Here’s a link to the pdf: DeKalb County Early Voting sites and hours of operation

#GA06 — We Need to Talk About Pleasantdale

On April 18, Jon Ossoff fell less than 4,000 votes short of an outright victory in Georgia’s Sixth Congressional House primary. There’s ample reason to believe those missing votes were DeKalb’s to give, and there’s a movement afoot—operating separately from the Ossoff campaign—to boost turnout in #GA06’s bluest county in the June 20 runoff and deliver DeKalb to Jon Ossoff bigly. It’s a two-step process: Step One: Improve Early Voting EV was deficient during the primary. During the first week of EV in DeKalb, in-person ballots could be cast only at the county Elections Board offices on Memorial Drive, several miles outside the Sixth District. Only during the second week of EV was an additional site opened, at Dunwoody Library, in the…

No Problem: Tucker Rec Center CAN be used for Early Voting in #GA06

Update on Early Voting in DeKalb Tucker Rec Center IS Available as #GA06 Early Voting Site   Backround: DeKalb County is considering adding Early Voting sites for the Sixth District runoff. Citizens have called for Tucker Rec Center to be added, along with Chamblee Civic Center.  Current policy only allows one early voting site, at Memorial Drive, several miles outside the district.  While it may not be the intent, the effect was voter suppression. Using Tucker would open up Early Voting to tens of thousands of people in the Southeast section of the Sixth. The Board is waiting until its May 11 meeting to to decide. Early voting starts May 30. No guarantees. There was a signal from the board that a…

We Nee Additional #GA06 Early Voting Sites in DeKalb

Contact: Sally Harrell sally@sallyharrell.org Twitter: @sallyharrellga We need to adequately serve 100,000 DeKalb Sixth District early voters in the June 20 runoff. We can do this by enacting the following changes: • Open Chamblee Civic Center EV Location May 30 • Open Tucker Rec Center EV Location May 30 • Open Dunwoody Library EV Location • Keep polls open 7 a.m. – 7 p.m. • Keep EV Locations open Saturdays Problems and Solutions • Many voters will be on vacation June 20 and will need to vote in advance. • The Memorial Drive office is an inadequate EV site for the 6th. Several miles outside the district, it’s inconvenient for ALL of the Sixth’s 100,000 voters under the best of circumstances. •…
