Deborah Gonzalez and democracy win: State Supreme Court rejects Brian Kemp’s election thievery

“If conservatives become convinced that they can not win democratically, they will not abandon conservatism. The will reject democracy.” — David Frum By Jonathan Grant @Brambleman In today’s ruling, the Georgia Supreme Court struck down the law Gov. Brian Kemp used in his attempt to keep former State Rep. Deborah Gonzalez out of the District Attorney’s office in the Western Judicial Circuit. “150,000 people get the right to vote!” a jubilant Gonzalez proclaimed today. This is a big victory not just for the people of Clarke and Oconee counties, but for citizens throughout Georgia. It also puts Kemp’s two-year appointment of Marie Broder as DA in the Griffin Circuit into serious question. Gonzalez had announced her candidacy for DA last summer. Shortly…

By Jonathan Grant @Bralmbleman Forget about Matt Lieberman. He ain’t gonna quit the race and even if he does, absentee ballots with his name are already going out. Let’s make it so it doesn’t matter what he does now. Georgia Rep. Vernon Jones couldn’t even last until the Democratic Primary. Now he’s speaking at the GOP Convention.

Jonathan Grant @Brambleman Donald Trump-loving State Rep. Vernon Jones is scheduled to speak tonight at the Republican convention. Apparently, he’s the only Georgian to take a microphone. But how much do Republicans know about the man? What do they care? Feel the Vern! MAGA! The timing of Jones’s endorsement of Trump, coming before the Democratic primary, was interesting. What it did was allow him to step onto the GOP stage before the Democratic door hit him on  his way out. And the door was about to slam hard. Although recent media coverage hasn’t mentioned it, Jones faced disqualification from the Democratic Primary ballot. Jones had been running for re-election to House District 91 in DeKalb and Rockdale counties when a DeKalb voter…

Georgia House candidate Mokah Johnson is the latest Democrat to get slimed by the GOP. Somebody should do something.

First, about those push polls   A “Push Poll” is Not a Legitimate Poll:  A so-called “push poll” is an insidious form of negative campaigning, disguised as a political poll. “Push polls” are not surveys at all, but rather unethical political telemarketing — telephone calls disguised as research that aim to persuade large numbers of voters and affect election outcomes, rather than measure opinions. This misuse of the survey method exploits the trust people have in research organizations and violates the AAPOR Code of Professional Ethics and Practices.– From American Association for Public Opinion Research Note: I’ve written previously about Mokah Johnson’s campaign: “In Athens, Mokah Johnson’s people-powered campaign takes root.”   By Jonathan Grant @Brambleman A recent push-poll of Georgia House District 117…
