Update: DeKalb drops two advance voting sites, more than a dozen precinct polling stations will be closed June 9

By Jonathan Grant @Brambleman Update May 15: Several normal poll locations will be unavailable for the primary, and the situation remains in flux due to the Covid-19 pandemic. At Thursday’s DeKalb Board of Elections virtual meeting, Elections Director Erica Hamilton informed board members that 14 precinct poll locations will be unavailable for voting on June 9. More closures are possible. There will be a special called meeting on Friday, May 22 at 3:30 p.m. to discuss further possible changes and preparations. Clarkston Mayor Ted Terry spoke out for expanded early voting hours, locations Early voting: March 2-20, 2020 By Jonathan Grant @Brambleman The DeKalb County Board of Elections stepped up its game for the presidential primary and sheriff’s election, unanimously approving on Thursday a staff plan to open 12 early voting sites across the county, many of them with expanded hours. (DeKalb operates two polling locations at its main office, with one set up for voters with disabilities.) Several polling locations will be open on two Saturdsays, March 7 and 17 and one Sunday, March 15. We need to talk about the DeKalb Board of Elections

By Jonathan Grant @Brambleman The DeKalb Board of Elections has more than its share of problems and several voting rights activists and grassroots volunteers spoke out about those issues and suppport for an ongoing audit at today’s DeKalb Board of Commissioners meeting. Liz Throop, Betsy Schwalbach, and others outlined many of the problems DeKalb voters faced last November: long lines, inadequate facilities for early voting, and problems with absentee ballots highlighted their list of concerns. This included 4,700 missing absentee ballots in DeKalb that remain a matter of dispute and investigation (supposedly) by the Secretary of State’s office.
