By Jonathan Grant @Brambleman Having put on the red cap long ago, Republican Sen. David Perdue (D-GA) is locked into see-no-evil mode when it comes to Trump’s faults and misdeeds. Their relationship goes back to a Trump Tower meeting in 2014. Back then, Perdue earned an endorsement tweet from The Donald, and in 2016, he returned the favor after Trump had sewed up the GOP nomination. In the Senate he’s been the president’s most steadfast supporter/sycophant. Perdue stood in the Oval Office and managed not to hear Trump’s racist comments about African and Caribbean nations that even Lindsey Graham—Lindsey Graham!—felt compelled to call out to the president’s face. Perdue saw Trump’s family separations at the border as nothing more than the “current…
Will DeKalb lawmakers who voted for ethics board downgrade change their tune this session?
Above: DeKalb vote on ethics referendum by House district. Note: * denotes district with portion outside DeKalb By Jonathan Grant @Brambleman My Twitter colleague Eli Spencer Heyman (follow @Elium2) loves data, maps, and politics. He’s broken down results from November’s DeKalb ethics referendum by House district (see maps). Here’s what jumps out from his work: While DeKalb voters rejected the controversial proposal by a whopping 61-39 percent margin, several legislators were completely out of sync with their constituents on the issue. Eleven of DeKalb’s House districts voted in resounding fashion against the controversial referendum that would, among other things, eliminate the county’s ethics officer. However, only six DeKalb representatives opposed the bill that set up the measure. During the General Assembly session,…
DeKalb Elections Board: Consultants are coming! Also, good news on Presidential Primary early voting
Above: This. Is better. By Jonathan Grant @Brambleman The DeKalb Board of Elections met Thursday in a different venue, down the hall and to the right, that actually looks like a meeting room. Much nicer, as you can see. The Board should hold every meeting there. Don’t make us go back to that dungeon room—step up and show some style! It’s 2020, and people are watching! The reason for the nicer digs: a rare visit by DeKalb commissioners. We even said The Pledge of Allegiance for the first time in forever. About 30 people attended the hour and a half meeting, which attracted an AJC reporter. He was there to cover the presentation of a plan by County Commission Presiding Officer Jeff…
Democrat Teresa Tomlinson launches “Georgia Gumption” video campaign
By Jonathan Grant @Brambleman Former Columbus Mayor and Senate candidate Teresa Tomlinson released her latest campaign video with a social media push Wednesday night. The 2:10 video, “Georgia Gumptio,” highlights Tomlinson’s attitude and South Georgia roots, and praises hardworking Georgians, from all walks of life, from a dishwasher to executives and entrepreneurs. The campaign’s social media introduction to the ad states: “Teresa learned about gumption watching her Mom, who climbed her way out of generational poverty. Now she’s packing a whole lot of Georgia Gumption and putting Mitch McConnell, David Perdue and that DC crowd on notice!” In other news: Tomlinson calls on Perdue, Loeffler to recuse themselves from impeachment case they’ve prejudged Tomlinson’s 159-county plan to beat David Perdue A progressive,…

Teresa Tomlinson calls for Sen. Loeffler’s recusal in Trump impeachment trial
Sen, Kelly Loeffler joined PSC member Jason Shaw in his Georgia Power rate hike victory tour Or, how can someone so rich be so owned? By Jonathan Grant @Brambleman Freshly sworn-in Sen. Kelly Loeffler, hand-picked by Georgia Gov. Brian Kemp to replace retiring Sen. Johnny Isakson, has, under terms of service, sworn her undying loyalty to Trump. She seems to have all her talking points—I mean beliefs—handed to her as part of the process. In a recent interview, Democratic Senatorial candidate Teresa Tomlinson, running against now-senior Sen. David Perdue, didn’t talk about Loeffler’s appointment, and complimented her past good works, but noted, “To the extent that she’s said she’s prejudged the circumstances, she shouldn’t serve on this impeachment trial.” Spoiler alert: Loeffler…
