Former Columbus Mayor and Senate candidate Teresa Tomlinson released her latest campaign video with a social media push Wednesday night. The 2:10 video, “Georgia Gumptio,” highlights Tomlinson’s attitude and South Georgia roots, and praises hardworking Georgians, from all walks of life, from a dishwasher to executives and entrepreneurs.

The campaign’s social media introduction to the ad states: “Teresa learned about gumption watching her Mom, who climbed her way out of generational poverty. Now she’s packing a whole lot of Georgia Gumption and putting Mitch McConnell, David Perdue and that DC crowd on notice!”

In other news: Tomlinson calls on Perdue, Loeffler to recuse themselves from impeachment case they’ve prejudged

Tomlinson’s 159-county plan to beat David Perdue

A progressive, Tomlinson arguably has the strongest resume in the Democratic field after served two terms as mayor of one of Georgia’s larger cities. The Emory-educated attorney believes that having a strong political base outside Atlanta gives her a strategic advantage, as well. She plans to improve on Democrats’ recent performance in rural Georgia, and she sounds like she has the fire in the belly–the gumption–to campaign strongly in all of Georgia’s counties.

“There’s no way (Republicans) win if you run a formidable woman from outside Metro Atlanta who can shave those vote margins,” she said. She mentioned a few of the counties she’s targeting: Rabun, Hambersham, Thomas, Screven, Peach, Fannin, some of which have Republican margins of “75, 80, 85 percent of the vote.”

She said she tells local Democrats, “You don’t have to flip this county. That’s not the objective in this election. You shave that four to five percent … and when you see Fannin is coming in at 5 percent less (for Republicans) than it did in the the Abrams-Kemp race, then you hop in your car and head to Columbus, where we’re having one hell of a victory party. That’s how we do it, folks.”

Nothing to cheer about: Perdue, Trump at World Series

Tomlinson has posted several campaign videos, but the most popcorn-worthy one came when she spoofed spoofed Perdue’s bromance with President Trump, which hit a sour note when the the soon-to-be impeached head of state was booed at the 2019 World Series. Click to watch.

She’s also, more than most other Democratic candidates for federal office, had a history of speaking out on impeachment.
