Treva Gear loses Georgia House District 175 special election. Keep fighting.

Treva Gear didn’t win the special election to fill Georgia State Rep. Amy Carter’s vacated seat in House District 175 (Lowndes, Brooks, and Thomas counties near Valdosta). Despite overwhelming support on Twitter (her RTs outnumbered her votes), it wasn’t close. Then again, it was much closer than usual, since the longtime incumbent had no Democratic opposition for … a while. Republican John Lahood won the race by a 3-1 margin. Looking at the 2016 results, those three counties voted for Trump 3-2. Without time or money, it would have been difficult to win under the most favorable conditions. But this is a start. HB 680: Georgia lawmakers make bipartisan push for paper ballots

By Jonathan Grant @Brambleman Six state representatives–three from each party–have cosponsored House Bill 680, which would abolish Georgia’s shaky electronic voting system and replace it with one utilizing more secure paper ballots. Recent security breaches, hacking threats, and a constant stream of news about Russian attempts to interfere with U.S. elections have made this move necessary, although Georgia’s hyperpartisan Secretary of State Brian Kemp–who happens to be running for Governor–has been reluctant to admit faults or make changes. That’s the good news. The bad news is that the bill’s effective date is January 1, 2019. You can help build Georgia’s grassroots statewide Voter Guide

By Jonathan Grant @Brambleman I am working on a team of Georgia grassroots volunteers who are creating a statewide Voter Guide. (The Guide is nonpartisan, although I’m not.) This ambitious project will link voters to candidates throughout the state in Congressional, Constitutional offices, and legislative races–maybe even down to local county and city campaigns, but we’ll see about that. It will be online and include answers to questionnaires, so you can see where candidates stand on issues. My self-appointed task in this is to collect contact information for legislative candidates: 236 in all. I will also publish information on this website, so feel free to subscribe. Must-read article on passage of SB 31 shows how Georgia got into Vogtle Mess

I am so sick and tired of Georgia Power’s lies and corruption. I was the PSC’s spokesman during the 1980s, and back then, commissioners would oppose legislation like SB 31 that usurped the PSC’s power.
