Great day in Smyrna this weekend. My daughter Laurel Cantrell came out to take pictures, which were great, but she ended up in the best one! How about that. John Noel gave the featured speech to a big crowd–more than a dozen candidates for state and local office showed up to speak, mix, and mingle. But John … seriously, you’ve got to meet this guy!   Georgia Public Service Commission Post 3 Candidate John Noel was the featured speaker at the Cobb County Democrats meeting Saturday in Smyrna. Due to a scheduling snafu, the meeting space was unavailable, but John persisted and called for a solar-powered meeting! A big crowd heard from more than a dozen newly-qualified Dem candidates, including former State Sen. Doug Stoner, who’s running for PSC Post 5.. Next week, Marietta hosts Georgia’s Young Democrats convention. John will be speaking there, as well. Reaction to his campaign has been phenomenal. Seriously, you gotta see this guy! UPDATE: Tricia Pridemore has a Republican challenger, John Hitchins III, who repsonded to this post: “Well, she does have an opponent now in the primary. A true Conservative who doesn’t approve of the current Republican way of cozying up with utility companies. One who believes in energy choice and the free market to decide what is best for Georgia citizens. One who has ZERO alligience to big business and will work to end the corporate welfare that the current PSC has established. Georgia’s solar-powered John Noel qualifies for Public Service Commission

It’s official: Democrat John Noel of Atlanta plunked down his money and signed the paperwork to run for Georgia Public Service Commission Post 3. His plan: unseat GOP incumbent and Plant Vogtle cheerleader Chuck Eaton. John wants Georgia to move away from “dinosaur thinking and dinosaur fuels” and supply our future energy needs with solar power and other clean, renewable resources. He also will be a voice for consumers, not utility lobbyists–which is what the current commission is all about. Here’s the latest example of a commission that climbed into bed with the utilities a decade ago and hasn’t woken up since.
