New day in deep-red Georgia? Hundreds protest in Peachtree City, Democrat Jill Prouty calls out MAGA candidates who “fail on social justice”

By Jonathan Grant @Brambleman Jill Prouty stepped outside the library she manages in Peachtree City on Tuesday, June 2, and observed a wondrous sight: Hundreds of people kneeling on the lawn of the City Hall complex. In the land of golf carts, they had marched to protest police brutality and racial injustice. Peachtree City Police Chief Janet Moon walked with them. It was as peaceful as peaceful could be. Georgia Rep. Philip Singleton needs to go–and he isn’t even there yet. Democrat Jill Prouty is determined to defeat him.

The south metro suburban area is now represented (and I use this term loosely) by Philip Singleton a paleoconservative culture warrior. In October’s contentious, race-baiting special election runoff  Singleton soundly defeated establishment candidate Marcy Sakrison, daughter of  former Congressman Lynn Westmoreland. Bear in mind, however, that turnout was low. Fewer than 2,600 of HD71’s registered voters–or about 5.5%–put Singleton in office. In apparent defiance of the old-school rule for freshman legislators…

Racial dog-whistling a winning strategy in Georgia HD71 runoff

Only 4,346 ballots were cast in the House District 71 special election runoff in eastern Coweta County and a small section of Peachtree City in Fayette. In Peachtree City, Singleton took 110 of only 167 votes cast. Sakrison started strong and faded early Sakrison, an educator and daughter of former Republican U.S. Rep. Lynn Westmoreland, was considered the frontrunner early in the contest to serve out the unfinished term of David Stover, who resigned his…

Marcy Westmoreland Sakrison relies on special-interest cash to fund Georgia House campaign

It’s a good way to scope out a political race, and Georgia’s special House election in Coweta and Fayette Counties is no exception to the rule. Because the election to replace David Stover is on a short time frame, a money snapshot is especially telling. With no incumbent, the dollar amounts aren’t big, but one fact pops out quickly.  Somebody wants to buy the election. Whether the attempt works is another issue. Three candidates rely on individual donors, but not Sakrison, the anointed establishment Republican. She’s raised the most money and relies heavily on special interests to finance her campaign. One…
