I don’t give a damn who Michael Thurmond supports

I just finished reading DeKalb activist and writer George Chidi’s GeorgiaPol post about the Senate District 40 race between Republican Fran Millar and Democrat Sally Harrell. Chidi focused on the tightness of the race and the role of endorsements, especially the non-endorsement endorsement by DeKalb CEO Michael Thurmond. It’s an interesting piece, well worth reading. Millar is facing the first serious challenge since he first took office twenty years ago, and it looks like the lack of competition has made him rusty—or arrogant. The real Diehl: Islamaphobic Georgia House candidate hit with ethics complaint

If all the horribleness surrounding North DeKalb House Candidate Ellen Diehl wasn’t enough, she’s now facing an ethics investigation over her campaign finances. Running against Democratic State Rep. Scott Holcomb in HD81 (Tucker, Northlake, Chamblee, Doraville,  Brookhaven, and a smidge of Gwinnett), Diehl first made a name for herself as a hardcore Trump supporter. She took a talking Trump doll with her when she served as a Trump delegate to the 2016 GOP convention. (She’d had the doll for years, so there’s something going on there, too.) Media are reporting on a KKK recruiting drive in suburban Tucker: “Help us fight the spread of Islam in our country,” Klan flyers state. The hate group senses an opportunity in North DeKalb, since the GOP is running rabidly Islamaphobic GOP House candidate Ellen Diehl against Democrat Rep. Scott Holcomb, one of the state’s most effective legislators, regardless of party. Diehl has presented herself as a mainstream candidate. She is not. That $100 a year fee on your Georgia Power bill is called the Nuclear Construction Cost Recovery Fee.
