Big turnout in Sandy Springs for Lucy McBath’s first open house

Well over 100 people turned out Saturday morning to see Georgia’s newest member of Congress at her new district office in Sandy Springs. During her remarks, Rep. Lucy McBath said she plans at least four town halls this year, starting with one in East Cobb County in April. (I overheard a pitch from constituents to staffers for one in John’s Creek, as well.) McBath rose to national prominence as a spokesman for gun reform after her son Jordan Davis was killed at a Florida Convenience store during a dispute over loud music. Priorities and values: Sally Harrell looks ahead to General Assembly

Meet-and-greets, fundraisers, and rallies have been replaced on her calendar by orientations, training sessions, and meetings. Lots of meetings. “I’ve been really, really busy,” she said over coffee recently, taking time out to discuss the upcoming General Assembly session, which opens Jan. 14. Lucy McBath and Friends at Tracy Prescott’s House Jonathan Grant @Brambleman Nearly a year and a half after Jon Ossoff’s failed $30 million campaign, Karen Handel  conceded Georgia’s Sixth District Congressional race to Lucy McBath. It is a great victory for Lucy. It is exciting to have her as my representative in Congress. I wrote a few weeks back: “Having transcended a tragedy, she exudes hope and graciousness—in sharp contrast to her opponent, a career politician, uninspiring at best, who believes crying children should be gaveled into order.” But now I concede that Handel is capable of graciousness. “Congratulations to Representative-Elect Lucy McBath and send her only good thoughts and much prayer for the journey that lies ahead for her,” she said in…

But there was a huge response, and thanks to Prescott and her husband, Jeff Corkill, Sixth District Congressional candidate Lucy McBath, a Cobb resident, is getting the blue carpet treatment in DeKalb. The Democratic activists, who both served as delegates to this year’s state Democratic Convention, recently hosted a meet-and-greet for the candidate, as well. Protesting Kafka for kids: Atlanta’s huge “Families Belong Together” march, rally

Across the United States, that was the message at 750 protests protesting the Trump Administration’s horribly cruel immigration policies that includes separating families, keeping kids in cages and putting toddlers on trial without an attorney. The sheer ugliness of the “zero tolerance” plan is beyond belief, even surreal: Kafka for kids. Several million marchers across the U.S. I haven’t seen any authoritative crowd estimates for the march and rally here in Atlanta (AJC gave a lame “several thousand”) but it was huge.
