DeKalb’s Chief Judge rejects horrible Republican Elections Board nominee

From today’s AJC: Paul Maner is officially out of the running for the DeKalb Elections Board. The Republican was rejected Wednesday by DeKalb Chief Superior Court Judge Asha Jackson, who approves appointments to the county’s five-member elections board. Jackson asked the county Republican Party executive committee to submit another name, said DeKalb County Clerk of the Superior Court Debra DeBerry. “The decision to reject his name as a nominee was based on an extraordinary number of phone calls and emails to Judge Jackson about Mr. Maner ‘s candidacy as a nominee and a determination after review of the same, that another more suitable candidate would need to be considered for the Board of Elections,” DeBerry said. By Jonathan Grant @Brambleman Early voting in Georgia starts Monday, Oct. 12 and continues through Oct. 30. There will be twelve advance voting sites in DeKalb County, up from eight in this year’s primary elections. Not only has DeKalb County added capacity, most notably south of Interstate 20, but hours have been extended significantly from previous elections. Latest Update DeKalb scrambles to move 19 polling places in response to Covid-19 pandemic Revised Early Voting Sites and Hours By Jonathan Grant @Brambleman Several normal poll locations will be unavailable for the primary, and the situation remains in flux due to the Covid-19 pandemic because the buildings are closed. At Thursday’s DeKalb Board of Elections virtual meeting, Elections Director Erica Hamilton informed board members that 14 precinct poll locations will be unavailable for voting on June 9. More closures are possible. There will be a special called meeting on Friday, May 22 at 3:30 p.m. to discuss further possible changes and preparations.
